"Miss Albenia Alcock died in the Beech Grove section last Thursday, at the age of 85 years. She was a native of the section in which she lived and died. She leaves one sister, Mrs. B. K. Furlong of this place, the only remaining member of her generation. During the Civil War Miss Alcock was married to Mr. Alex Simmons, a solder who was home on a furlough. At the end of his furlough, he returned to the service, and never returned. His young wife never knew what became of him, and after a long wait, she assumed her maiden name. She was a member of the Catholic Church, becoming such while attending a Catholic school near Bardstown, and never after joined any other church. The burial was in the family burying ground, after funeral services conducted by Rev. J. P. Brooks."
