Sanford Brannon
Sanford Brannon has the distinction of having the earliest enlistment
date of any African-American soldier born in Anderson County.
Louisiana
"colored" regiments were the earliest organized.
Brannon's regiment had
its designation changed in March 1864 from 10th Louisiana Infantry
(African Descent) to 48th U.S. Colored Infantry.
