LITTLE GEORGETOWN CEMETERY This cemetery is at the former site of a small African American community that existed until the 1930s or 1940s. Name
Birth Date
Death Date Inscriptions Note: In Black Marriage Book A: White, Thomas to Ellison Samantha - 28 Dec 1866
The community was on a no-longer-used (except by hunters) spur off Lock Road in Anderson County.
The area is bounded on one side by this road and on the west (?) by a pasture and fenced with barbed wire.
It is overgrown with brush. Little remains apart from the small cemetery and some boundary rock walls.
There are remaining sections of stacked-stone walls along the little-used road and along the pasture boundary.
Following the pasture boundary (also fenced) north (?), a corner is reached formed with this and an east-west-running section of wall.
Over this east-west wall and about 50 yards north is the small cemetery in a corner near the boundary fence. The cemetery consists of 12-15 stones.
Apart from one conventional monument, all are upright fieldstones set in 1-3 rows. Two of the fieldstones are readably etched.
