Indenture
of Apprenticeship

Commonwealth of Kentucky
This Indenture made this _thirteenth_ day of ___April_
one thousand eight hundred and ___ninety-one__ between __The infant JAMES
RAY KINCHLOW__________ by N.J. Guy, Clerk of the county court of Allen
County, in the State of Kentucky, of one part, and ____JOSEPH EDWARD RAY__of
the other part;
Whereas, by an act of the General Assembly, the Judge of said
Court is empowered to bind out orphans and poor children, whoch
parents are incapable of bringing them up in moral courses,
therefore the Court made the following order, to-wit:
That the infant JAMES RAY
KINCHLOW aged 6 years boy and the same is hereby apprenticed to Joseph Edward
Ray JOSEPH EDWARD RAY until the said infant shall have arrived at the age of 21
years. The said infant having no guardian, the father making
no objection, the mother being dead and the interest of the infant requiring
this action of this court in his behalf.
Now, therefore, this
Indenture Witnesseth, that the said N.J.
Guy, clerk of said Court, as above recited, hath put, place dna bound, and by
these presents, doth put, place and bind the said ___James Ray Kinchlow__ apprentice to and under the said __J.E. Ray___
with _him_ to dwell, and _him_ to serve, in the condition, duty,
and character of an apprecntice, until the said __James
Ray Kinchlow___ shall arrive at the age of ___twenty
one___ years, fully to be completed and ended--- that, during all the said
period, the said ___James Ray Kinchlow____shall
faithfully serve the said __Joseph Edward Ray__ master, in all lawful
business, according to the best of _his__ wit and ability, and in all
things honestly, orderly and obediently demeand and
behave __himself__; and the said ___Joseph Ray___ doth for __his__ heirs, executors, and
administrators, covenant and agree with the said ___James Ray Kinchlow__ that he, the said __Jas. E. Ray___
will teach the said __J.R Kinchlow__ the
trade, art, and business of __Farming_ and will find, provide for, and
allow to the said ___James R. Kinchlow_ sufficient diet, wearing apparel, washing,
lodging, proper medical attention, and all other things usually allowed to
apprentices by good and just masters, and will treat _him_ with humanity --- that he the said __Joseph
E. Ray_will __also teach the said James Ray Kinchlow to read and to write the English language and will
give him a common school educations
In witness whereof, the said _James Ray Kinchlow__
by the said N.J. Guy, Clerk as aforesaid, and the said __Joseph E. Ray__ hever hereunto set
their hands and seals, on the day and year first above written
