VORTEX MAN HELD ON MURDER CHARGE

Menifee Slusher of Vortex is being held in the Wolfe County jail 
awaiting examing trial for the slaying of his brother-in-law, Ernest Chambers 
last Saturday night, July 20, near the home  of Clay Kidd in Wolfe 
county.

Sheriff Elmer Clark, who investigated the killing, said it was reported 
to have happened while the two men quarreled over who should drive a 
car in which they were riding.  Both men were reported to have been under 
the influence of intoxicants when the tragedy occurred.

The wives of both men, a sister-in-law of Slusher and the sister of 
Chambers were all in the car when the trouble came up.

After killing Chambers, Slusher drove about a mile to the home of 
Deputy Sheriff Tim Terrell and surrendered.
