November 9, 1945 Oct. 2002 Wolfe County, KY Submitted by: http://www.rootsweb.com/~archreg/vols/00001.html#0000062 Wolfe County Genealogy and Carole Bayes ************************************************************************ FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. LAURA M. CUNDIFF HELD AT METHODIST CHURCH FRIDAY Last rites for Mrs. Laura M. Cundiff, 69 year old former resident of Wolfe County, who died of a heart ailment Friday, November 9, at the home of a son, Charles Cundiff, in Detroit, were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Methodist Church here. Rev. Ramah Johnson was in charge of the services. Mrs. Cundiff, the daughter of Ira and Sarah Drake, was born on Meadow Branch in Wolfe county on September 13, 1876. She lived on the old home place until a few years ago. She moved to Pine Ridge for a period of about six years. Mrs. Cundiff, who had been in failing health for the past few years, had made her home with her granddaughter, Mrs. Herman Hull, in Flemingsburg, and her children, Mrs. Cecil Tyler, in Dayton, Ohio, Mrs. Courtney Hobbs and Mrs. Charles Cundiff, in Detroit, Michigan. Mrs. Cundiff had been a member of the Methodist Church for many years, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for fifteen years. Early in life she was married to Mr. William H. Cundiff, and to their union ten children were born. All survive her except Courtney, who passed away a year ago, and two children who died in infancy. The pall bearers, by her request, were her sons, Carl, Charles, Aster, Basil, and a grandson, Kenneth Hobbs. Her youngest son, Bill, who is with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific, was unable to attend the funeral. At the request of the family, a special prayer was offered during the funeral services by Rev. Johnson for this son. The large group of relatives and friends attending the services and the many beautiful floral offerings were evidence of the esteem and regard held for Mrs. Cundiff. Services were concluded at the Evans-Drake cemetery by members of the Order of the Eastern Star. Internment was by the Mexley Funeral Home, Flemingsburg. Surviving relatives include the husband, Mr. W.M. Cundiff, Marion, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Courtney Hobbs, of Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Cecil Tyler, of Dayton, and five sons, Carl, of Brooklyn, N.Y., Charles, of Detroit, Michigan. Astor, of Middletown, Basil, of the Army Air Corps, and Bill, of the U.S. Army, a sister, Mrs. Mary Cable of Campton, nine grandchildren and one great grand child.
