Carroll, age 74 died at his home in Campton Tuesday, July 31, after a long illness. Mr. Carroll, the son of the late John and Esther Elkins Carroll was born in Wolfe County on May 7, 1871. In his passing, Campton has lost one of its oldest and most respected citizens. In his earlier life, Mr. Carroll taught school in Breathitt and Wolfe Counties. He later served as County Court Clerk of Wolfe County for eight years. He was a charter member of the Fellows lodge when it existed here and was an active Mason for many years. He had been a member of the Methodist Church for 57 years. In 1894 he was united in marriage with Miss Margaret Smith and to their union four children were born. His wife and two of the children, Beatrice Carroll Bay and Courtney Carroll, preceded him in death. In 1924 he married Miss Christine Gibson of Fayette County and to this union a son and daughter were born. In addition to his wife, he is survivied by two daughters, Mrs. J.P. Lawless, Dayton, Ohio, and Miss Maerene Carroll, a student at the University of Kentucky, Lexington: two sons, Wallace Carroll of Pittsburg, Pa., and Bobby of the home address; several grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted Thursday at the Methodist Chruch with Rev. David Sageser of Lexington officiating. In addition to his immediate family, those from out of town attending the funeral were Mrs. Eva Winningham, Cincinnati, and Mrs. Clay Gibson and daughter, Rebecca, and son, David, Mrs. Ruth Scanlon, Mr. and Mrs. Pryce Buttus, Mrs. Elizabeth Gibson, Mrs. Joe Oliver and Mrs. Louise Smith, all of Lexington. Burial under the direction of the Hearne Funeral Home, Stanton, was made in the Evans-Drake Cemetery.
