He had been ill for only a few days and was taken to the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington where he sustained an appendectomy on Thursday night. "Uncle Hiram" as he was affectionately called by his many friends was a minister of the Baptist church for many years and did much good for the cause of Christ. He also practiced as a Veternarian for many years. He was first married to June Long, August, 1890 and to this union were born ten children, two of which preceded Uncle Hiram in death. His first wife died in 1908 and he later married Mary Lacy Brooks, who is also deceased. Surviving him are five sons: Noah Blankenship of Piketon, Ohio, Ollie of Portsmouth, Ohio, Ova and Elva of Hamilton, O., and Bruce, his youngest child, of Hazel Green and with whom he had made his home since the death of his last wife. He is also survived by three daughters, Mrs. Luther Oldfield and Mrs. John Coldiron, both of Hazel Green and Mrs. Fred Lewis of Georgetown, KY; 24 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends also mourn his loss. Funeral services were conducted on Monday, October 9, at 1:30 p.m., in the Hazel Green Methodist Church with the pastor, Rev. Riley Shirley officiating, assisted by Rev. J. Ryan Nevius, pastor of the H.G. Christian Chruch and funeral arrangements in charge of Potter Funeral Home of West Liberty, Ky. Burial was in the Hazel Green cemetery.
