Obituary: Johnson, Jesse W. - Wednesday, January 30, 2008 Lexington Herald-Leader from 2/1/2008 - 2/2/2008 Submitted by: Carole Bays ********************************************************************** RICHMOND - Jesse W. Johnson, of Charlotte, NC and long-time resident of Campton, KY, died Jan 30, 2008 at the age of 90. He was born May 4, 1917 to the late Joseph Joshua and Mary Elizabeth Johnson of Williamsburg, KY. Mr. Johnson graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1938 with degrees in Mathematics and Agriculture. After completing college, he served as an Executive Officer in the U.S. Navy aboard the LST 683 in the Pacific front of World War II from 1942 to 1945. He worked for the Farmers Home Administration, an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, until 1984, retiring with over 45 years of service. Throughout his life, Mr. Johnson was dedicated to community service. He served as a deacon of the Campton Baptist Church for over 50 years. He also served on the Board of Directors of Natural Bridge State Park and the Dessie Scott Children's Home. He was a member of American Legion Post #179, Scottish Rites, Oleika Shrine Temple and numerous other local civic and charitable organizations. Mr. Johnson loved nature and was a passionate gardener. Above all else, he was dedicated to his family. He was a wonderful, caring and devoted husband, father, son, brother, grandfather and most recently, great-grandfather. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Howard Johnson and Fred Johnson, and two sisters, Alma Goins and Audrey Wells. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dean Gant Johnson; his daughter, Jessica Johnson Frazier; a grandson, Forrest Wade Frazier and wife Jayne Stoll Frazier and great-grandson Jess Thomas Frazier, all of Charlotte, NC. Funeral services will be held at 2pm Mon, Feb 4, 2008 at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home in Richmond, KY. Interment will follow at the Richmond Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sun, Feb 3 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Laurels in the Village at Carolina Place and of Carolinas Medical Center - Pineville for the wonderful care they provided Mr. Johnson.
