Obituary: Gomia, Arbus E. Carroll - Thursday, 1999 Middletown Journal Submitted by: Carole Bays ********************************************************************** Arbus E. Gomia Arbus E. Gomia, 80, of Middletown, died Thursday at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born on March 10, 1919, in Wolfe County, Ky., and was a resident on Middletown for 62 years. She was employed as a gluer at Diamond International where she retired after 38 years of service. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 218. Survivors include two daughters, Bette Whittlesey and husband John of Monroe and Patricia Smith of Middletown; four grandchildren, Stephanie Mackey of Middletown, John Whittlesey, Jr. of Boston, Mass., Brian Smith of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Brad Smith of Middletown; two great-grandchildren, Michael Bush and Cory Bush; a brother, John Carroll of Middletown; three sisters, Sarah Griffith of Barwick, Ky., Dorothy Stidham of Crypton, Ky., and Susie Blair of Hazard, Ky.; numerous nieces and nephews and many close friends and loving neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lula and Coleman Carroll; three brothers, Elmer Carroll, Vaughn Carroll and William Carroll, and a sister, Bessie Mosley. ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home with Chaplain Jackie Ward officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
