SILER, Edward 24 May	1917 14 Apr 1971

NOTE: Johnny Cox, Sr., P. O. Box 85, Siler, KY 40763 requests the
following information be recorded here so that other interested
persons may share the results of his many many years of research
in reference to this cemetery and of Pierce D. Hamblin.

The four people listed above are fairly recent burials and the
graves are located outside the old or original cemetery which
is the oldest cemetery on Big Poplar Creek. Charley Shelton
at one time counted 82 graves, all marked with field stones
only, with no names or dates.

Pierce Dant Hamblin & wife owned the land here, also their
sons George Hamblin & Vincent Peter Hamblin and wife,
Sopha (Peace) Hamblin. Pierce Dant Hamblin and/or his sons
George and Vincent Peter Hamblin sold this land to William
Lawson and his brother Henry Lawson on 27 August 1832.

Linda (Lawson) Shelton who “passed away a couple weeks
ago” (around 1 Nov. 1981) at age 98 and had good remberance
until she fell and broke her hip related to Johnny Cox how
Linda’s grandmother told her how they moved from Cane Creek
to Big Poplar Creek. Linda further stated she knew of only
two people being buried there (old cemetery) and they were her
grand mother Elizabeth Lawson, wife of William and the wife
of John Reynolds.

This cemetery could have been known as the OLD HAMBLIN CEM.,
later changed to the OLD LAWSON CEM. It is further believed
that this is where Pierce Dant Hamblin And wife are buried even
though the stone for Pierce Cant Hamblin is in the HAMBLIN CEM.
on Mulberry Creek.
