S. J. Marion Dies
At Local Hospital
Samuel Jerome Marion,
63, farmer and life long resident of the Bagdad community, died at
9:30 a. m. Wednesday at the King’s Daughters Hospital.
Mr. Marion was a son
of the late Charles and Susan Cook Marion, members of well known
families. He was a member of the Bagdad Baptist Church and a
gentleman who held the confidence and respect of a wide circle of
friends throughout the county.
Surviving are his
wife, Mrs. Ruby Cox Marion, a son, John Jerome Marion, and two
grandchildren, Teresa Beth and Charles Ray Marion, Bagdad.
Funeral services will
be conducted at 2 p. m. tomorrow, Friday from Shannon’s and burial
will follow in the Bagdad Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements
had not been made when the Sentinel went to press.

Eugene M. LeCompte
died at 1:30 p.m. last Wednesday at Old Mason Home.
Surviving are a son,
Eugene M. LeCompte and a grandson, Eugene H. LeCompte, Louisville.
His body was taken to
Louisville for funeral at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon from Pearson’s
Funeral Home. Burial was in Cave Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. E. L. Martin
Dies in Louisville
Resided For Forty
Years At Simpsonville
Mrs. Sarah Isabelle
Martin, 85, widow of Edward Lee Martin, died at 10:30 p. m. Monday
at the home of a daughter, Mrs. A. P. Wright, 4420 Brookfield,
Louisville.
Mrs. Martin resided
for forty years at Simpsonville and was a member of the Simpsonville
Baptist Church. She was a native of Anderson County and a daughter
of the late Caleb and Mary Ann Shouse Price. She will be pleasantly
remembered by a host of friends at Simpsonville and throughout the
county.
Surviving are two
other daughters, Mrs. W. J. Scroggins, Yuma, Ariz.; Mrs. Irene
Williams, Louisville; two sons, Jesse Lee and Lester R. Martin,
Louisville; nine grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were
conducted at 11 a. m. yesterday morning from Hall-Taylor Funeral
Home by the Rev. J. C. Nichols. Burial followed in Grove Hill
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were
Richard Sweeney, Bobby Williams, John Smith, Roy Martin, William
Price, and Donald Shouse.

Widow Of Attorney
Clarence G. Barrickman
Mrs. Alice Bowie
Barrickman, 80, widow of Clarence G. Barrickman, prominent
Shelbyville attorney, died Saturday at 5:30 a. m. at the King’s
Daughters Hospital where she had been for the past six days.
Born in Louisville,
Mrs. Barrickman was the daughter of the late James Livingston Bowie
and her mother was a Miss Duncanson.
Mrs. Barrickman was a
member of St. James Episcopal Church. Possessed with a sweet and
refined manner she was known and loved by a host of friends and
acquaintances not only throughout the county but elsewhere. As a
friend and neighbor she had no superior and her kindness and
generosity will long be remembered.
Surviving are two
daughters, Mrs. G. W. Hubley, Jr., Annapolis, Maryland; Mrs.
Clarence Miller, Arlington, Va.; a brother, James L. Bowie, Jr.,
Louisville and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were
conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday from Shannon Funeral Home by the Rev.
Robert C. Board. Burial was in Grove Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were
Livingston Gilbert, Ken Gilbert, Bernard Davis, Charles L. Bradbury,
Charles Randolph and Robert Owen Collins.

Mrs. Annie Frances
Hornback, 87, died at 3:50 a. m. Monday at her residence at 14
Goodman Avenue where she had resided for the past forty-eight
years.
Mrs. Hornback was a
native of Anderson County and a daughter of the late John and
Permelia Waterfill Utterback. She was a member of the Salt River
Baptist Church at Lawrenceburg.
Mrs. Hornback was a
devoted wife and mother, a loyal friend and neighbor. She was kind
and understanding and made friends of people throughout the
community all of whom were saddened by her death.
Surviving are her
husband, Roy Hornback, a daughter, Mrs. Martha Rose Hughes, and a
son, William Hornback, Shelbyville, four grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Rose Bond, Lawrenceburg, and a
brother, Irvin Utterback, Charleoi, Pennsylvania.
Funeral services
were conducted at 2 p. m. Wednesday from Hall-Taylor Funeral Home
by the Rev. Earl Wilson, pastor of Highland Baptist Church.
Interment followed in Grove Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were
Rollie Streible, Bobby Whitaker, Ed Slaughter, C. D. Lefler, Don
Elders and William Bays.

Mrs. Lela Louise Neal
Johnson, 70, wife of Lionel Johnson, died at 3:30 p. m. Monday at
the King’s Daughters Hospital where she had been only six days.
She had been ill two weeks.
Mrs. Johnson was a
native of Shelby County and a daughter of John J. and Judy Gordon
Neal, members of well known families. She resided on Snow Hill.
Mrs. Johnson was a
member of First Baptist Church. A devoted wife and sister, loyal
friend and neighbor, she held the love and respect of all who knew.
Surviving besides her
husband are three brothers, Raymond, Herbert, and Nash Neal, Shelby
County; two nieces and one nephew.
Funeral services were
conducted at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday from Shannon Funeral Home by the
Rev. Raymond Lawrence. Burial was in Grove Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were
Everett Turner, Robert Miller, Claude Riggs, Ruben Long, L. C.
Heaton and Orris Johnson.

C. C. Cook, Sr.
Dies At Age Of 82 Years
Long A Prominent
Resident of Shelby
Charles Clifford
Cook, Sr., 82, a retired farmer of the Peytona community, died at
3:05 p. m. last Friday at the King’s Daughters Hospital.
Mr. Cook was a native
of Shelby County, was a son of the late Henry H. and Mahalia Thacker
Cook. He was a member of the Buffalo Lick Baptist Church and a
member of Mt. Eden Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his
wife, Mrs. Lillie Baker Cook, five daughters, Mrs. A. B. White,
Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Willett Mahuron, Southville; Mrs. Irvine Gaddie,
Middletown; and Mrs. Kenneth Yeager and Mrs. Waldeen Williams, both
of Louisville; three sons, Marvin, David Lee, and C. C. Cook, Jr.,
all of Waddy; a sister, Mrs. Sherman Hardesty, Shelbyville; and a
brother, George Cook, Mt. Eden; twelve grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were
conducted at 10 a. m. Monday from Hall-Taylor Funeral Home by the
Rev. B. C. McGohon, assisted by Dr. A. B. White. Interment followed
in Mt. Vernon Cemetery.
Pallbearers were
Charles Cook, Ollie Huffman, Delbert, Gilbert, and Ludlow Cook, and
George Lacefield.

William T. Cook Dies
At Home Here
William T. Cook, 74, a
retired farmer, died at 1 p.m. Saturday at his home in Middleton
Heights.
Mr. Cook was a native
of Middletown but most of his life had been spent in Pope’s Corner
and Dover neighborhoods. He was a son of the late Robert Thomas and
Alice Poulter Cook members of well known families. He was a member of
Smithfield Christian Church.
Mr. Cook was possessed
with a pleasing personality and had many fine traits of Character,
chief among them being loyalty.
Surviving are his wife,
Mrs. Barbara Allen Cook, Shelbyville; a daughter, Mrs. W. H.
Carpenter, Sr., Shelbyville; a sister, Mrs. G. L. Herrick, Middletown;
six grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were
conducted at 2 p. m. Monday from Shannon Funeral Home by the Rev.
William Sturgis, assisted by the Rev. Raymond Lawrence. Interment was
in Grove Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert
Whitworth, Estill Carpenter, J. A. Dedman, Guy Cheathman, John Allen
and Phil Raymond.

James Quin Connelly,
83, father of Mrs. John C. Lawson with whom he had made his home for
the past four years, died at 9:30 Monday night at Colonial Halls where
he had been for two weeks.
Mr. Connelly was born
in Dundee, Scotland and was a retired engineer for
Commonwealth-Edison, New York City. He was a member of First Reform
Church of Long Island.
A gentleman of high
ideals, Mr. Connelly made a host of friends during his stay in
Shelbyville.
Surviving besides his
daughter, Mrs. Lawson, is a granddaughter, Miss Eve Lawson.
Funeral services were
conducted at 10:30 a. m. Wednesday from Shannon Funeral Home by the
Rev. W. E. Hisle. His body was sent to Port Washington, Long Island,
New York, for burial in Nassau Knools Memorial Park.

Injuries Fatal To A.
J. Reynolds
Death Occurred At Jewish
Hospital Tues.
Arthur J. Reynolds, 47,
died at 11:30 Tuesday night at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville as
the result of injuries received at his home at Mt. Eden about 5 o’clock
in the afternoon.
Mr. Reynolds was
working on his car which was jacked up and he was underneath, the jack
slipped and the car fell on him. He was brought to King’s Daughters
Hospital and then taken to the Jewish Hospital where he died of a
fractured skull.
Mr. Reynolds was a
native of Shelby County and a son of the late Branson Reynolds and
Mrs. Bell Cook Reynolds, Mt. Eden, members of well known families.
Mr. Reynolds was a
member of the Mt. Eden Christian Church and a gentleman who held the
respect and full confidence of people in all walks of life. His tragic
death came as a shock and with sadness to all throughout the county.
Surviving are his wife,
Mrs. Pearl Brown Reynolds, Mt. Eden; six daughters, Rachel, Joan,
Dolly Pearl, Michel Kay Reynolds, and Mrs. Ernest Miller,, Middletown;
his mother, Mrs. Bell Cook Reynolds and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will
be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday from Mt. Eden Christian Church by
the Rev. Robert Johnson. His body is at Cleveland’s Funeral Home at
Mt. Eden. Burial will follow in Best Cemetery in Anderson County.
