MCKINNEY/BURK

My husband is a direct descendant of William McKinney and Polly Burke-Burk. Our research
shows that Collin (Colleon) McKinney is the father of William. Collin McKinney was born
1735 in Somerset, NJ, married to his 3rd wife Rebecca, about 1776 and died May 27, 1811
in Pulaski Co., KY. Collin has a will. Collin first wife was Sarah Boone, 2nd wife was
Margaret Finley. We have no information on William's mother Rebecca except her first
name. She was living in 1811. Collin McKinney father was Mordica McKinney, born between
1700-1715 in Scotland. Collin's mother was Mary Sebering also of Scotland. All of this
information has NOT been verified. We also have information on the children of Collin and
William.

Polly Burke and William McKinney had 6 children: Jane, Patience, Fleming, William,
Bales/Baylis/Baylus, and John.

The Burke line goes back to the immegrant John Burk from England wha came to Virginia
around 1650.

You can read about all of that, including who Polly's children married in the book by
Greever, Hockett, Verbal, and Stevenson "Some Decendants of John Burk (1656 - 1699)

"Buck" is ascribed to William A. or his father Peter. Also have info. Peter may have been
"James". The german link is possible since the census enumeration district was called

o Wesley Chapel cemetary is located southeast of Somerset KY. Take KY 769 (Rush Branch
Road) toward the Buck Creek Boat Dock. About 10 miles out you will climb the Haynes Knob.
Turn left after you pass the fire station on the only paved road avaiable. I don't know
the number but there should be a sign for the Buck Creek Baptist Church. Follow the road
for about three miles past the Buck Creek Baptist Church and past the Old Hail Bridge
Road. You will climb a very steep hill and near the top the road makes a sharp left turn.
In the turn is a sideroad to the right and there should be a sign there for Wesley
Chapel. Turn right and the cemetary is about 1/4 miles on the right. You will probably
find the graves you are looking for there. Peter William Gregory was a brother-in-law to
my great grandfather William Edwards and both were in the War Between the States
together.

o Buck Creek is a major stream that travels through the entire eastern part of Pulaski
County and was a major element of life there until 1950 when Cumberland Lake changed the
territory.

o Jugornot is a place near the Buck Creek Boat Dock where my step mother lives. In the
last half of the 19 th century there was a hotel there with a saloon in the basement.
Liquor was sold by the glass, bottle or jug. If the customer wanted to buy a jug he could
save money by providing his own jug. If a customer ordered a jug of liquor the bartender
asked, "Do ye want it in a jug or not?"

o Peter William Gregory was a good customer after the war. He was a survivor of the
notorious Confederate Prison at Andersonville, GA and had many demons to defy. He quit
drinking after surviving a fall of hundereds of feet over the Buck Creek Gorge.

Good luck on your search.

The Pitman Cemetery is actually the family burial ground and many of the "ole time"
Pitmans are buried there. It is located on the lands that belonged to the Pitman family.
As I remember there are no headstones. The graves are marked only with field stones and
as with most burial grounds, is overgrown. Mike Pitman has since passed on and I am not
sure if any record of who is buried where exists.

Some of the people that Mike told me are buried here are Micajah, Lydia, Moses, Margaret,
Micajah (Cage), and Elizabeth. These are my 3G, 2G and Great Grandparents.

Concerning Goochtown directions these direction are correct except I do not know where
the Singleton Church of God is located. The road that goes to Goochtown has no church at
the end of it. There are some signs at the end of the road for churches, one being the
Goochtown Church of Christ, where I have attended. The Goochtown church building was
built in the 70's or early 80's.

I beleive the Spencer McDaniels you are referring to is also the Father of Josephine
McDaniels who married John G. Dye. I have very little on Josephine or her family, I do
know her marker is at the Ringold Cemetery, but no record of her burial is noted. I think
she either moved in with one of her children, or remarried as I can find nothing about
her after John died in 1913. I have found Spencer , who married Delia Spears, in the
Casey Co. Census book with their children. John and Josephine were married in Pulaski Co.
June 9, 1866. Would you have anything on Josephine? I will share information with all on
these lines. Thanks, Bob

Bob,

The Spencer McDaniel of Pulaski Co., Kentucky that I am researching was born ca. 1760. He
is older than the one who married Delilah Spears. I know that they are related somehow,
but there are so many similar names that I haven't figured them all out yet.

I believe you can add another couple of names to your list of children. I may be wrong
but I believe James (Jim)Wilburn Turner was a brother to Dave. Jim married Linda Ellen
Wells. My father, Emry Roscoe (Ross) was one of their sons. Ross married Flora Edith
Price, who's mother was Melinda Jane Baker Price (married to Fred Price). My reason for
believing in this connection is that my grandparents lived in Pulaski County, Ano
Kentucky to be exact and one of my grandparents infant children was named Balzora.
Granddad had a brother named Dave. About three years ago I met Dave Turner's son. Dave
had just recently passed away. This may or may not be a connection, I hope so.

My Grandmother was Nancy Mary Taylor born in Somerset Pulaski County, Kentucky October
19, 1872, Married William Barrett Marcum born in Roberts Port, Wayne, Kentucky November
14, 1871.

Nancy Mary Taylor's father was Beverly Marshall Taylor who married Emma Christian...no
birthdates or marriage dates.

We have brothers and sisters of Nancy Mary Taylor as:

Frank Taylor
Allie Taylor
Euell Taylor
Harvey Taylor
Lettie Taylor
Dock Taylor (half brother)
Ola Taylor (half sister)

I guess this is in the time frame you have. If you have found any information on this
particular connections I would be interested. I have a cousin who is researching also and
think she has a bit more information.

I guess I will have to go to the area and just research further.

Thanks very much
