Surnames in Pulaski Co.
Posted by David J. Miller <jcmdjm@bright.net> on Wed, 30 Dec 1998,
in response to Surnames from Pulaski County, Ky., posted by Robert D. King on Sun, 11 Oct 1998
I was happy to find your posting with all the family information,
some of it was new to me. I am searching for info on many of the
same families from Pulaski County, specifically: Phoebe BRINSON,
wife of Isaiah BRAY; James Martin DYKES and his ancestors (I have
his father's name as Eli, is this incorrect?); Cloy? HARGIS, wife
of Thomas STOGSDILL and her parents, Abraham HARGIS and Susannah
PRICE. Any information you may have to share would be greatly
appreciated.
Your query under the surname HORTON has a blank after Julia Ann
Horton's mother's name. Her surname was DABNEY. She married
Archibald on 7 August 1834 in Wayne County, KY. They were married
by John Jones. My source for this is from Volume One of June
Bork's Wayne Co., KY records via Pam Groover.
(pgroovy@prodigy.net)
You may or may not already have this information - Julia Ann
HORTON was married to a Francis M. BUTTRAM on 16 October 1860.
She then married James Martin DYKES on 15 October 1865. The fate
of Mr. BUTTRAM is still a mystery to me.
I hope this information is helpful, and hope you will contact me
with any additional information concerning these people I've
listed. Thank you very much.

Many of the Smith and Coffeys lived in Pulaski Co. and Wayne Co.
In particular , William and Millie Ann Coffey lived in Wayne Co.
, but some of their children lived in Pulaski Co. William and
Millie An were born and married in Wayne Co. Feb. 10 , 1832, but
moved to Ellington Mo. in
1887. I lost track of them at that time, so I don`t know when
they died, or where. Only one of their children
Daniel moved back to KY. It is possible they moved to Ar. later
since Ellington is not far from Clay Co. Ar. I think there may be
a tie, given the close proximity of the two locations. Let me
know what you think, and perhaps we can exchange information.

There is a Weddle Cemetery in Faubush. Can you give me any

My great grandfather, John G. Sharp of Pulaski Co was the son of
Henry and Celia Sharp from TN. John Sharp lived in an area called
Caintown or Cain Store, KY on Hwy 80(?). I've heard that he was a
school teacher, a judge, and owned the store there. He married
Martha Weddle (d/o John M. Weddle?). John served in the 49th KY
Inf. during the C.W.
Their children married into the Gregorys, Rainwaters, Gossetts,
Penningtons, Allens, and Cains. I think these families may all be
closely related. I've also heard that I was related to a Dr.
Clair Cain from that area. My uncle was named after him.
I've not had a chance to research this side of my family. I
probably have a whole new line of relatives that I know nothing
about.

Church there in 1792. In 1793 he was in Clark Co., Ky and in
Montgomery Co. when it was formed in 1797. He probably came to
Lincoln Co. in 1798 and was there when Pulaski was formed in
1799. He was last found in Pulaski Co. in November 1819 and
showed himself in Jackson Co., AL in Nov. 1821. He left several
family members in Pulaski Co., including William Herrin who
married Sally Evans [1st] and Sarah Whitaker [2nd]. Sally was the
daughter of John Evans and Eleanor Jones. I am descended from
William through his son John Herrin [b. 1806] who married Anna
Earp [1st] and my ancestor, Elizabeth Montgomery Jackson [2nd]. I
am seeking all I can find on the Herrin origins. It is possible
