"Declaration of Marriage of Negroes and Mulattoes"
Pulaski County, Kentucky began recording African American marriages in 1866. For those marriages which occured prior to that time, a "Declaration of Marriage" could be made, stating that the couple " ...declared that they have lived together as husband and wife for the past ____ years, and still desire to continue living together as such...". The first Declaration was made in August, 1866. The majority occured in 1867, and continued through the early 1870's (with the exception of Cyrenius Cloyd & Oates Dungans, whose Declarations were made in the mid-1880's)
