GARNER -- Mr. John J. Garner, 73 years of age, died at his home at Faubush, Sunday, October 8th [1933]. He was one of the most prominent citizens residing in the western part of the county, having served as postmaster for 14 years and had long been identified with the farming and business interests of that section. For more than 20 years he was a teacher in the Pulaski county schools. He was active in church and Sunday School work, being a member of the Pleasant Point Baptist Church for 54 years. He served as superintendent of the Sunday School and instructor of singing. Last December he celebrated his fiftieth wedding anniversary. The funeral service was held at the home, Monday morning, conducted by Rev. J.R. Sears, of Somerset. Interment was in the Weddle Cemetery [at Faubush]. Mr. Garner is survived by his wife, Mrs. Minnie [sic] Tarter Garner; two sons, Dr. T.M. Garner, of Somerset, and Dr. Howard Garner, of New Albany, Ind., and two daughters, Mrs. Isabelle Tarter and Mrs. Mary Barker, both of Faubush. All members of his family were with him at the time of his death.
