The following obituary appeared in the 29 Jul 2005 morning edition of The News-Gazette, P.O. Box 677, Champaign, IL 61824-0677:

 

"Funeral services for Dennis Vaughn, 95, of Ludlow (Illinois) will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ford-Baier Funeral Home, 406 E. Pells St., Paxton, Illinois. The Rev. Elaine McCoy will officiate.  Burial will be in Ludlow Cemetery, Ludlow.  Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.  Mr. Vaughn died at 5:14 p.m. Wednesday (July 27, 2005) at Country Health Nursing Home, Gifford, Ill.  He was born June 11, 1910, in Nancy, Ky., a son of Archie and Lucy Dalton Vaughn.  He married Louise Arthur on Jan. 27, 1930, in Monticello (Illinois).  She died Aug. 21, 1995.  Survivors include two daughters, Dixie Bernice Huls of St. Joseph (Illinois) and Elsie Stiles of Bossier City, La.; a son, Charles Vaughn of Paxton; a brother, Ecus Vaughn of White Heath (Illinois); seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by a son, three brothers and five sisters.  Mr. Vaughn moved to Monticello in 1926, where he lived until 1945.  He lived in Loda (Illinois) for three years and moved to Gifford in 1955, after which he and his family lived in the Ludlow area until he entered the nursing home.  He attended Kentucky schools and was a farm hand.  He later farmed for himself and worked at Ludlow Elevator.  He retired from the Ludlow school system after 10 years.  He was caretaker of Ludlow Cemetery and also assisted Charlie Swanson on the farm.  He enjoyed playing cards and gardening.  Memorials may be made to Country Health Nursing Home or to an organization of the donor's choice."
