Married. At the residence of W.S. Shepperd, in Somerset, on the evening of

the 10th inst., by the Rev. J.N. Current, Mr. Thomas J. Vickery to Miss

Mattie Castle. We offer friend Tom our hand of gratulation and may this

union of true hearts continue to prove an earthly blessing which will

ultimately lead the devoted husband and wife to that beautiful and happy home

eternal in the Heavens.

Died. At his residence, two and a half miles South of Somerset, on the

evening of the 9th inst., of Consumption, Thomas Smith, in the thirty-fifth

year of his age. The deceased was a devoted member of the Baptist Church and

bore his prolonged illness with calmness and resignation. He leaves a wife

and three small children who have the sympathies of many friends in this

their sad bereavement.

Steamers on the Cumberland. The Eddyville and other boats are now making

regular trips from Nashville up the Cumberland, one of these landing at Point

Isabel, in our county, every week. Many of the supplies needed by our

railroad contractors will be shipped via Nashville up the river to the Point.
