Found in own 1810C HH, Surry Co., NC, pg 163. 2
Found in own 1820C HH, Pulaski Co., KY. Also found an Abraham Rainwater in 1810, age 26‐45, who is very possibly William's
brother.
Bought a farm west of Faubush, Somerset Co., KY in 1813. Deed to land and probated will, dated 1825, found at Pulaski Co.
Courthouse, Somerset, KY by Roscoe Rainwater. 17

An individual named as William Rainwaters Sr. served as a private in Capt. Wm. H. McClellan's Co. (or Capt. George C. Allen's
Co.) along with Edward, Newsom and William Rainwaters Jr., War of 1812. Enlisted 1 Jan 1814, remarked as deserted 20 Jan
1814. This is almost certainly NOT this individual, as the enlistment took place at Fort Hampton in Alabama. 173
Probably buried in Rainwater Cemetery with sons Bartholomew and Miles. Two handmade fieldstone tombstones exist that say
M.S.R. d.1841 and W.S.R. No idea what the middle S stands for in either case.
Ordered to assist in laying out the road from John Ryan's plantation, and another road from Rockford to Dry Branch, Thurs 13
Feb 1806. Ordered to assist in laying out a road from Hogan's Creek to Fisher's Gap, Weds 11 Feb 1807.343
Deed from James Rainwater Sr. to Abraham Rainwater proved in court by William Rainwater, Fri 16 May 1806, Surry Co., NC.

Ordered to serve jury duty, Weds 14 Aug 1811. Vinire Facias executed by sheriff, Thurs 15 Aug 1811.344
His property eventually passed to son Miles, who left the "William Rainwater farm" to his daughter Mary E. Gossett in 1884.

Year of birth calculation: If we assume William had his first child the same year he was married and married when he was 16,
the latest he could have been born as late as 1786. In the 1810 Surry Co. census he is listed as a male age 26‐45, giving a birth
year of 1765‐1784. In the 1820 Pulaski Co., KY census he is listed as a male over age 45, meaning he HAD to be born in 1775 or

earlier. The William born on 3 Jun 1774 in Johnson Co., NC is a different person.423
Medical:
Info from Diana Flynn indicates that he died as a result of an infected foot (sounds like Gangrene or Tuberculosis of the bone)
that the local physician, Dr. WIlliam Roy, told him needed to be amputated. He refused and died as a result. 26

Found in parents' 1800C HH, Salisbury District, Surry Co., NC, pg 664. Listed as female age 16‐26.
Found in husband's 1810C HH, Surry Co., NC, pg 163. Listed as female age 26‐45. 2
Found in husband's 1820C HH, Pulaski Co., KY, pg 14. Listed as female over age 45. 3
Found in own 1830C HH, Pulaski Co., KY, pg 22.
Found in own 1840C HH, Pulaski Co., KY, pg 332.
Name given as Patty (family Bible), Patsy (1830 & 1840 census, husband's will) and Martha (daughter Patsy's marriage record)
by various sources. Possibly listed as Marty in son James' marriage record.
Received entire estate in husband's 1825 will. Called Patsy in this document. 304
Children listed in William Rainwater Bible but NOT listed in RR doc are: Lydia, James, Nancy (twin of John), William Howard. RR
doc lists two children not listed in the Bible transcription, Joycie & Sukey, and gives a son named Billy. 178 Howard Rainwater
doc. lists Sukey and Anson, but not Lydia or Nancy. 108
She is probably buried in Rainwater Cemetery with sons Bartholomew and Miles. Two handmade fieldstone tombstones exist
that say M.S.R. d.1841 and W.S.R. No idea what the middle S stands for in either case.
Info from Diana Flynn says that Martha refused to own slaves for religious reasons. 26
Apparently son William married a cousin or other relation of his mother's in Casey Co. The marriage ended in divorce. 44
Surname Hodges and ID of parents is traditional ‐ there is no documentary evidence to support this.
Ancestry.com gives her surname as Cochran, no source.
