Medical:
Physician S. M. Brice was called upon in 1884 to treat his neuralgia. By 1892, he was a physical mess. The report from an
Oregon physician lists kidney problems (Bright's disease), bronchitis, inability to digest fat, bladder problems, chronic diarrhea,
poor eyesight and neuralgia on the right side of his head. Sounds like a serious case of post‐traumatic stress syndrome. 490
Cause of death: arteriosclerosis and hypostatic pneumonia 866
