indicates that enrolled for service at Camp Wolford, and the muster rolls for this camp show him as a private at his enlistment,
a corporal @ Jan 1863, promoted to sergeant @ July 1863, appointed ordnance sergeant on 23 April 1864.. He was wounded
in the Battle of Stone River, TN (Murfreesboro) Dec 31 1862 ‐ shot in the hand ‐ serving under Gen. Rosecrans. He was
wounded at Marietta, GA on June 27 1864, apparently during Sherman's march on Atlanta ‐ shot in the hip and thorax. 327

In Pulaski Co., KY he was a farmer, deputy sheriff, general store operator, tax assessor & collector for the county. In Williamson
Co., TX he was postmaster of Waterloo in 1897 and 1901 Post office opened 12 May 1893 and ceased operation 15 Sep 1904.
He moved to Wilbarger Co., TX in 1907 and became a school board trustee (1914‐1927), Director of 1st State Bank, a deacon in
the Baptist Church and a Mason. Achieved the rank of Worshipful Master. He was a US census enumerator (1880 Pulaski Co.,
KY, 1910 Wilbarger Co., TX). He moved into the city of Vernon in 1919.77 94
Pension records indicate that he had lived in Pulaski Co., KY from 1865 to 1890, then moved to Taylor, Williamson Co., TX in
1890, followed by a move to Wilbarger Co., TX in 1907 where he was then living. He described his residence as 5 miles
northeast of Oklaunion, Texas. 328

Newspaper article about Mollie Rainwater includes her memory of a long train trip to Texas from Kentucky when the family
moved. They were met at the station by Charlie Gossett, her sister's future husband, and stayed that night in the Gossett
