Terttu ANSARY

Mrs. Terttu Marie Ansary, 86, of Barbourville, formerly of Maryland, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2006 in the Knox County Hospital. She was a daughter of the late Robert G. and Emma Borghold Palm born on January 30, 1920 in Chicago, IL..

Mrs. Ansary was a schoolteacher who taught in Chicago, Maryland and Afghanistan where she taught a generation of Afghans English. She enjoyed reading, listening to classical music and studying anthropology..

On June 3, 1944, she united in marriage with Mir Amanuddin Ansary in Chicago, IL and to this union three children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 10, 1981.

Survivors include her children, Dr. Rebecca Pettys of Barbourville, Mir Tamim Ansary and wife, Deborah, of San Francisco, CA and Mir Riaz Ansary and wife, Ayesha, of Malaysia; a sister, Tania Madura and husband, Leonard, of Chicago, IL; four grandchildren, Jessamyn, Elina, Musab and Rayyaan; three step grandchildren, Lynne, Gregory and Laurel; among other loved ones and dear friends who mourn her passing..

A memorial service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Wednesday, August 16 at 7 P.M. with Dr. Russell Sisson officiating..

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday after 6 P.M.

Expressions of sympathy may go to the Ivan Pettys Scholarship Fund, Union College, 310 College Street, Barbourville, KY 40906.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
