Mr. Lonnie Merida, age 52, of Roadfork, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2003 in the University of Tennessee Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was a son of Axie Allen Merida and the late Clint Merida Sr., born to them on February 23, 1951 in Pineville, Kentucky. Lonnie was a retired auto body repairman, a member of the Young Grove Baptist Church at Dewitt, Kentucky, a member of the Elks Lodge #119 of Middlesboro, Kentucky and a member of the Knox County Trail Riders Club.

He was preceded in death by his father: Clint Merida Sr., two twin brothers: Teddy and Doyle, a sister: Sharon, and a grandson: Rory Ryan Merida and a sister-in-law, Billie Merida.

Mr. Merida is survived by his loving family: One daughter: Michelle Daniels and husband Melvin of Harrogate, Tennessee. Two sons: Steven Lonnie Merida of Roadfork, Kentucky and Lonnie Duane Derrick Merida of Cumberland Gap, Tennessee. Three grandchildren: Whitney Daniels, Tyler Daniels and Steven Anthony Merida. His mother: Axie Allen Merida of Roadfork. Five brothers: Clint Merida Jr. and wife Samantha of Flat Lick, Kentucky, Shelby Merida of Bimble, Kentucky, Rev. Kenneth Merida and wife Carol of Bimble, Kentucky, Jeff Merida and fiance Mechelle of Bimble, Kentucky and Randy Merida of Raodfork, Kentucky. Three sisters: Linda Sprinkles of Lily, Kentucky, Brenda Grubb and husband Ray of Mills, Kentucky and Loretta Mize of Heidrick. A host of nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends who mourn his passing.

Funeral services for Lonnie Merida were conducted in Hopper Funeral Home Chapel in Barbourville, Kentucky on Thursday, March, 13, 2003 at 2 p.m. with his brother, the Rev. Kenneth Merida and the Rev. Mike Collins officiating. Burial was in the Allen Cemetery at Mills Creek, Kentucky. Those serving as pallbearers were: nephews and friends. Those serving as honorary pallbearers were: Brutus Metcalf, Steve Mills and all loving friends and loving neighbors.

The Merida family received friends at Hopper Funeral Home from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday and from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
