LAVOY MARTIN, 78, of Chicago and formerly of Knox County, died Thursday, June 10, 1999 at Our Lady of Resurrection Hospital in Chicago. He was the son of the late Chester and Rosa Patterson Martin, born to them on January 24, 1921 in Knox County, Kentucky. Mr. Martin was a retired machinist in the steel industry; World War II Navy Veteran and a Veteran of the Kentucky Army National Guard Company "C" 149 Infantry of Barbourville; life time member of the V.F.W. Post #2149 of Bensenville, Illinois and served as chairman of their blood drive. Mr. Martin is preceded in death along with his parents, his step-father: Dallas Cole. Funeral services for Lavoy Martin was conducted on Wednesday, June 16,1999 at 11 a.m. in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Mooneyham and the Rev. Jeffrey Branum officiating. Burial followed in the Patterson Cemetery at Heidrick. Those serving as pallbearers were nephews of Mr. Martin. Those serving as honorary pallbearers were friends and neighbors of Heidrick. In lieu of flowers, the Martin family has suggested that Memorial contributions may be made to the Patterson Cemetery in loving memory of Lavory Mills. Hopper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
