Mr. Willard Gray, 65, of Barbourville, Ky., the husband of Etta Bolena Gray, was born in Knox County on April 5, 1941 to the late Thomas G. and Carrie Grubb Gray, and passed away Saturday, July 29, 2006 in the Knox County Hospital. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Earnest Lee and Ken Gray.
Mr. Gray believed in the Holiness faith. He was a truck driver and a retiree from the Knox County School Board. During life, he enjoyed his family, fishing and watching Nascar. Mr. Gray had also served in the Army National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Etta Bolena Gray of Barbourville, Ky.; two sons, Rick Gray and wife Crystal of Camp Hill, PA; Johnny Gray and wife Debbie of Barbourville, Ky.; two daughters, Julia Mefford and husband Chris of Pulaski, Tn.; Tonya Merrium and husband Tony of Bowling Green, Ky.; Five brothers, Nelson Gray and wife Beulah of Barbourville, Ky.; Lloyd Gray and wife Sharon of Culleoka, Tn.; George Gray and wife Phyllis of Columbia, Tn.; Jack Gray of Lexington, Ky.; Colonel Gray and wife Shirley of Georgetown, Ky.; two sisters Elsie Carnes and Lena Mae Chadwell, both of Barbourville, Ky.; nine grandchildren. The family of Mr. Gray would like to extend a special thank you to Vickie Tretch and Eddie Gray. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Willard Gray were conducted on Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the Hampton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sam Moore and Rev. Charles Lee officiating. Burial followed in the Hampton Cemetery at Girdler. Pallbearers were Tim Cobb, Wayne Smith, Bob Fredrick, Nelson Gray, Lloyd Gray, George Gray, Jack Gray, and Colonel Gray. Honorary Pallbearers were employees of the Knox County School Board, Staff of Sams Pharmacy, Larry Warren, Mitchell Carl and Dr. West.
