Mr. Joe E. "Cotton" Evans, 86, of Heidrick, passed away Friday morning, August 17, 2007 in the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. He was the son of the late E. B. and Clara Siler Evans born on January 19, 1921 in Knox County. Mr. Evans was the former owner and operator of Cotton's One Hour Cleaners. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Barbourville where he was a former choir member and also attended the Highland Park Baptist Church. Mr. Evans attended both Berea and Union Colleges. He was a former master commissioner for the Knox Circuit Court, a former realtor and enjoyed singing. Mr. Evans faithfully served his country in the Army Air Force. On March 22, 1974, he united in marriage with Wilma Britton in Barbourville. He is survived by his loving wife, Wilma Evans of Heidrick; several cousins; among other loved ones and dear friends who mourn his passing. His funeral service was conducted at the Highland Park Baptist Church Sunday, August 19 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Jeffrey Branum officiating. Mr. Evans was laid to rest in the Patterson Cemetery with military funeral honors by the American Legion. Casket bearers were James Arthur Evans, David Evans, Roger Evans, Steve Evans, Jim Prichard, Nick Melton, Earl V. Evans and Ray Evans. Honorary bearers were Dr. John Doby, Dr. Raju Vora, W. J. Patterson, Cecil Patterson, Donnie Martin, Doug Martin, Edward Yeager, Robert Stivers Jr., Charles Buchanan, Wilbert Evans, Ledford A. Cole, Jim Stewart, Glen Croley, Wilbert Siler, Willard Siler, Cecil Rhodes, Arthur Allen Smith, Charles Dean, Dr. Andrae Collins, Don B. Mills, John David King, Barry Britton Cole, Clofas Sams, Keith Lee, Cecil Campbell, Wendle Hinkle, Leamon Davidson, Oscar Parsons, Johnny Parsons, Charles Phillips, Jerry Carey and Walter C. Hopper Jr. Expressions of sympathy may go to the Patterson Cemetery Fund, c/o Mary Irene Patterson, P. O. Box 552, Heidrick, KY 40949. Arrangements were under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
