|FLAT LICK - Georgetta Simpson Carnes, 73, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2002, at Baptist Regional Medical Center, Corbin, Ky. Born Sept. 28. 1928, she was a daughter of the late Floyd and Omie Carnes Simpson. She was a beloved mother and homemaker, and a member of East Jellico Baptist Church at Tinsley. On Nov. 11, 1947, she married Rev. Lee Roy Carnes, and to this union a son and four daughters were born. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Lee Roy Carnes on June 20, 1988; and two brothers, Rob Simpson and Charlie Simpson. Survivors include her children, Merrell T. Carnes and wife, Sheila, Crossville, Tenn., Sharon Kay Valentine and husband, Ed, and Debra Gail Haggard and husband, Mike, all of Corbin, Brenda Lou Kessler and husband, Rick, Jacksonville, Fla., and Melissa Rochelle Bailey and husband, Bill, Pineville; grandchildren, Steven Carnes, Nicole Thorley, Nicholas Carnes, Eddie Valentine, Nathan Valentine, Cassi Haggard, Courtney Haggard, Chad Haggard, Chaylee haggard, Kailee Bailey, Meghan Bailey, Zachary Kessler, and Austin Kessler; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Carnes,. Will Thorley, And Trey Valentine; brothers, Ted Simpson of Walker, and Joe Simpson and wife, Mable, of Trotwood, Ohio; sisters, Gladys Carnes and Luediene Hines, both of New Lebanon, Ohio; two special friends, Anita Earls and Betty Cook; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 30 at East Jellico Baptist Church with the Revs. Rondald Howard and Tommy Patrick presiding. Burial will be in Green Hills Memorial Gardens in Middlesboro. Pallbearers will be Steven Carnes, Nicholas Carnes, Eddie Valentine, Nathan Valentine, Dale Thorley and Joe Messer. Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Hopper Funeral Home, and from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday at East Jellico Baptist Church. Hopper Funeral Home, Barbourville, Ky., is in charge of arrangements.|

Carnes and wife Sheila of Crossville, Tenn., Sharon Kay Valentine and husband Ed and Debra Gail Haggard and husband Mike, both of Corbin, Brenda Lou Kessler and husband Rick of Jacksonville Fla. and Melissa Rochelle Bailey and husband Bill of Pineville; her 13 grandchildren; her three great grandchildren; her brothers, Ted Simpson of Walker and Joe Simpson and wife Mable of Trotwood, Ohio; her sisters, Gladys Carnes and Luediene Hines both of new Lebanon, Ohio.
Funeral services for Georgetta Simpson Carnes were conducted at the East Jellico Baptist Church at Tinsley on Tuesday, April 30, 2002 with the Rev. Rondald Howard and the Rev. Tommy Patrick officiating. Burial was in the Green Hills Memorial Gardens in Middlesboro. Hopper Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
