Frances Burkholder, age 74, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on November 18, 2008. Frances was born on June 4, 1934 to Thomas and Maggie Hignite in Barbourville, Kentucky, located in the southeastern part of the state. Frances graduated from Barbourville High School and then earned her teaching degree from Union College in Barbourville. Frances had a teaching opportunity at Covell Elementary in Grand Rapids, Michigan so she relocated for what she thought would be just a few years as she planned to teach abroad in Germany after she had a few years of teaching experience. Her plans for her future in Germany were quickly changed when she met a young banker named David Burkholder, fell in love, and became David�s wife in 1959. Frances continued her teaching career in Grand Rapids until her first of three children was born. Later as a teacher�s aide and then working in the offices of Meijer Inc. until her retirement in 1991. Frances was a dedicated gardener and enjoyed donating her services at various volunteer projects. Frances�s family includes her husband, of 49 years, David Burkholder, her children: Thomas (Shanin) Burkholder, Brian (Jamie Jamieson) Burkholder, and Patrick (Jacquie) Burkholder , her grandchildren: David, Alexander, Shelby and Alec; her sister Leigh (Richard) Burnett. A cremation has taken place according to Frances�s wishes. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 24 at 1:00 p.m. at Fountain Street Church. Interment will be in the Georgetown Twp.
