About Jessamine County

Jessamine County, named for the Jasmine Flower, was formed from a portion of Fayette County on December 19, 1798.
It is bordered by Fayette, Garrard, Madison, Mercer, and Woodford Counties. It is located in the central part of the
state near the Kentucky River, and is part of the inner bluegrass region of the state.

Nicholasville, the county seat, was named for George Nicholas, who drew up the first Kentucky constitution.
Other communities are High Bridge, Little Hickman, Keene, and Wilmore.
Jessamine County is the home of Asbury College and Asbury Theological Seminary, which are in Wilmore.
