SURNAME: JONES

My brick wall is James Presley Jones born Feb 1824 Kentucky. Am trying to find his parents.
James married Lucinda Ann Hutchinson Bingham in 1847 in Grant county, KY. Their 11 children were all born in Grant or Pendleton counties. James sold part of his land on Grassy Creek to William Gulick in 1869 then moved to Kansas after the 1870 census (in precinct 6 for the 1870 census) He then sold the rest of his land to Thomas Smallwood in 1871. Some people claim his parents were Thomas Jones and Cordelia McDermid, but they did not come from Grant or Pendleton county and were in Missouri by 1833 for the birth of a daughter.
Any help would be greatly appreciated Constance Schofield kavolscof@hotmail.com

SURNAME: BUTLER

Researching the Silvanus Butler family in Grant County. Silvanus Butler and Margaret Ann Fletcher came to Grant County in 1852 from Bath County. They purchased land adjoining Arnold’s Creek in 1856 using a land contract. In 1868 Silvanus lost the land in a dispute and left the county for Polk County, Missouri. They resided in the Benton township until about 1878. Margaret Ann came back with her sons Fletcher, Silas, Grandison (Grand), Sylvanus Wayne (Buck), Thomas Nicholas (my Great Grand Father) and a daughter Margaret. The boys farmed and acquired land that bordered Arnold’s Creek and the Warsaw road. Most of the boys are buried in Grant County. Margaret Ann Fletcher is buried in the Mt. Zion Public cemetery. Any information and or pictures will be appreciated.
