Year Events/Records
1780s The Kentucky Land Grants Index (1782-1924)
1790s

Kentucky established statehood in 1792. Floyd County was established in 1799 from Fleming, Mason, and Montgomery counties.

1800

1807 - Clay County established from Floyd, Knox, and Madison.

1808 - Courthouse burned and records were lost.

After the courthouse burned, court was held in private residences until the new courthouse could be established. The Annals of Floyd County 1800-1826 contains the early court records in an easy to read form.

1810

1819 - Harlan County established from Floyd and Knox.

The War of 1812 lasted from 1812-1815.

1820

1821 - Perry County established from Clay and Floyd.

1822 - Lawrence County established from Floyd and Greenup.

1822 - Pike County established from Floyd.

1823 - Morgan County established from Floyd and Bath.

1830
1840

1843 - Johnson County established from Floyd, Lawrence, and Morgan.

The US Mexican War lasted from 1846-1848.

1850
1860

1860- Magoffin County established from Floyd.

The Civil War raged from 1861-1865 with two battles fought in the area.

1870

1870 - Martin County established from Floyd, Johnson, Lawrence, and Pike.

1880

1884 - Knott County established from Breathitt, Floyd, Letcher, and Perry.

1890

Census Records from 1890 were destoryed by fire in 1920s.

The Spanish American War occurred in 1898.

Phillipine Insurrection lasted from 1899-1902.

1900
1910

World War I lasted from 1917-1918.

Spanish Flu Epidemic causes many deaths.

1940

World War II lasted from 1941-1945.

1950

Korean War lasted from 1950-1953.
