OLD REGULAR BAPTISTS CHURCH MINUTES

The Pike & Floyd Co. area is covered by The New Salem Assn., the Minutes of which start in 1826, and The Union Assn., founded in 1859. Obits & Memorials [sometimes published many years after a death], begin, on a regular basis, in 1895 for The New Salem Assn. and in 1902 for The Union Assn.

Dec 27, 1799...Gov. of KY appointed James Harris, Neely McGuire, Henry Stratton, , Goodwin Lycans, James Ewington and Barnet Wording

FLOYD COUNTYS FIRST JUDGES

Dec 27, 1799, Gov of KY appointed John McIntire, James Young, and Jesse Spurlock as the first judges of the Court of Quarter Sessions

FIRST FLOYD COUNTY COURTHOUSE

Was built in Prestonsburg in 1799 and was destroyed by fire on Monday, April 18, 1808.
  

MONDAY, APRIL 18, 1808,

At the home of William James Mayo in Prestonsburg , the courthouse had burned, circuit court was held.
PRESENT: Honorable John Granham and Alexander Lackey, Esquires, Asst Judges. David Brown, Gentleman, appeared and was sworn in as a lawyer having met all the requirements.
                    
Abraham Beavers, foreman, Jacob Slusher, Richard Preist, James Ratliff, Richard Ratliff, John Murphy, Richard Damron, Tandy Stratton, John Branham, John Hatcher, James P. Harris, Harris Wilson, Alex Young, Thomas Brown, James Young and Robert Brown were all sworn and seated as a Grand Jury of Inquest for this circuit
                  
MONDAY , JUNE 26TH, 1808

Circuit Court held at the house of Joesph James and Battis Jerome in Prestonsburg.
PRESENT: Hon. John Granham and Alexander Lackey, Esquires, Assistant Judges

Abram Beavers, Foreman, Michael Millions, John Hatcher, John S. Baisden, Hiram Stratton, John Damron, Moses Preston, R. Damron, Richard Priest, John Sellards, John Brown, James P. Harris, Edward Dorton, Tandy Stratton, Joesph Ford, M. Edwards, were sworn and empanelled a Grand Jury , and was charged by H.C. Bruce, ESQ; retired to consult on their presentments and after some time returned and presented....Court adjourned
